Dr Heather McKain

Registered Counsellor

BHSc, MD(Naturopathy), MNZAC

Dr. Heather McKain is a dedicated and experienced counsellor based in Canterbury. With a strong foundation in naturopathic medicine and integrative approaches, Heather focuses on providing holistic counselling services to adults across Aotearoa New Zealand.


Heather's experience includes work in GP settings, neuroaffirming ADHD counselling, cancer care, sports psychology, and working with youth and teachers in education settings. Heather has assisted people experiencing crisis, for instance having worked at a domestic violence shelter in Montana.

Heather holds a Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from Bastyr University in the US, the world's premier tertiary education institute for integrative medicine.

She has also conducted research on the topic of cancer care and was awarded the Deans List academic distinction for her degree in community health and neurology at Montana State University.

Heather's relaxed approach puts people at ease. Her motivation to empower people on their personal journeys means that she tailors her counselling to suit an individual's unique needs and situation.

Outside of her mahi (work), Heather spends time with her corgi, Melvin. She is also an avid ultramarathon runner, as well as equestrian, competing in dressage and show jumping competitions.
