Matt (Ngāti Tama; he/him) is a consultant clinical psychologist with skills in bicultural approaches and working with group systems that are highly sought-after by workplaces. Matt is also an established researcher in the area of mental health and wellbeing technology.
Matt provides consultation to workplaces, as well as psychological intervention and coaching for teams and individual employees. He brings over two decades of hands-on experience in the wellbeing sector. Beginning as a social worker and family therapist working with rangatahi (youth) and whānau, he then went on to train as a Clinical Psychologist and now leads one of New Zealand's prestigious clinical psychology postgraduate training programmes.
Matt has published national and international research on Te Ao Māori approaches to wellbeing and technology in healthcare. He is an Associate Professor and part of internationally acclaimed wellbeing research and development projects, such as the E-therapy team at the University of Auckland School of Psychological Medicine and SPARX which was published in the British Medical Journal and received two international awards for digital innovation.
Matt's provides a calm and relaxed environment for people to address the challenges they are facing, and takes a pragmatic approach informed by evidence-based practice.
Matt is based in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. Outside of work, Matt is also known to be handy with a guitar!
